Spied: 2014 Suzuki SX4

The Suzuki SX4 is not a huge seller in Australia, commanding less than one per cent of the small car market where the Mazda3 is king with almost 20 per cent, but a new model could change things.

These spy photos taken by Carparazzi snapographers in Spain show the all-new 2013 model which will replace the current Suzuki SX4 that has been doing the rounds since 2007.

Suzuki's new vehicle is expected to adopt the Kizashi mid-sized car's design motif says Carparazzi's photographers, with a sleeker, sportier design hidden beneath its camouflage suit.

"We can clearly see a partially disguised Suzuki badge sitting centre on the prototype’s grille, and while much of the front-end is heavily masked it’s clear the new styling has been influenced by the look of the Suzuki Kizashi sedan," says the spy photography agency.

The next generation SX4 is likely to keep power output similar to the current 2.0-litre petrol engine's 112kW, but will likely derive power from a smaller capacity, perhaps a 1.6-litre unit, to meet European CO2 emission standards.

Gearbox options are likely to continue as per the current SX4 models, with manual and CVT auto transmissions, and both AWD and FWD models are being developed.

Scheduled to be built in Japan, the new generation Suzuki SX4 is likely to be offered in three body types, five-door hatch, sedan, and a high-riding AWD crossover version.
