Spied: 2014 Citroen DS3 Convertible

We've yet to hear confirmation that the Citroen DS3 Convertible will be made, but this picture shows that a rival to the MINI Convertible is in development.

The superminis are loaded on a transporter, but the protective white tape covers a canvas roof that opens in a similar style to the Fiat 500C's. That means the DS3's top concertinas back onto the rear deck, leaving the roof bars in place. That’s why the cars you see here show the B-pillars and bootlid’s leading edge, as the regular hatch’s panels are unchanged. That means the regular DS3 hatch’s glass, apart from the rear windscreen, will remain.

The engine line-up is yet to be confirmed, but the twin exhausts and alloy wheels that the cars in this picture have show that there are the DS3 DSport version, which uses a 148bhp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Lower powered versions and even a diesel may be on the cards if the Sport version proves a hit, while the fashion conscious DStyle version is likely to use the more powerful 108bhp 1.6-litre diesel.

The DS3 Convertible may be shown at the Paris Motor Show in September, before hitting showrooms in 2013. Pricing is expected to be around £2,000 above the equivalent hatch, meaning a starting point of £17,000 for a DStyle version. For more details click here.
