Recall Up Date: 2006 - 2007 Jeep Liberty

The recall issued for 2004-2005 Jeep Liberty models earlier this year has been expanded to include model-year 2006 and 2007 vehicles. The Liberty SUV was originally recalled over concerns that rear suspension components might fail as a result of exposure to road salt used in salt belt states. Now, 137,176 more vehicles have been added to that recall.

With the addition of 2006 and 2007 Jeep Liberty SUVs, the recall now affects 346,900 units in 20 states. Liberty models produced from July 3, 2003 through June 29, 2007 may experience excessive corrosion to their rear lower control arms thanks to road salt applications in the winter. This corrosion might lead to a fracture in the component, which could result in the vehicle losing control.

Chrysler began carrying out the recall on March 26, and will notify owners of affected 2006-2007 Jeep Liberty SUVs that they can come in for replacement of the suspension components free of charge. Owners can contact Chrysler for more information at 1-800-853-1403.
